Overview
The Successful Candidate Will
- Hold a professionally accredited M.Arch (Prof) degree.
- PhD will be an advantage.
- Be registered as a Professional Architect with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP), or eligible for registration, and have at least 5 years of experience post-professional registration.
- Experience in working in both professional practice and in academic setting.
- Demonstrate an ability to communicate conceptual design principles and application of architectural tectonics and detailing to a wide variety of projects.
- Be able to provide conceptual and detailed architectural design feedback to students, coupling it with theoretical and practical instruction, in a manner that is commensurate to the level of teaching.
- Demonstrate an eagerness to engage with the School, students, and contribute to a positive and rigorous intellectual culture, perform related administrative duties, and generally promote the programmes offered at Wits.
- Demonstrate ability to developing public space, rehabilitating buildings and projects that would stimulate growth in underprivileged neighbourhoods.
- Mentor early career academics and develop consultant and design build culture in the programme.
- Evidence of working with heritage buildings, and interest in developing heritage courses and conservation proposals for buildings at WITS at CIL.
- Evidence of work in diverse communities and mentoring students and staff in designing and constructing structures with recycled materials.
- Evidence of exhibitions, attendance of international and national conference, securing research grants, peer review publications and leadership in an institute will be advantage.
Advantages
- Have a good working knowledge of sustainable design practices.
- Be willing to teach a lecture-based course in architectural structures or professional practice.
- Demonstrated research skills, as applied either to design work or to text-based publication.
- Have a passable working knowledge of software typically used in the production of architectural drawings.
