Overview

The Layout Technician plays a critical role in ensuring that all parts produced meet customer drawings, dimensional requirements, and quality standards. Using precision measuring tools and layout techniques, the technician conducts first-off, in-process, and final inspections to verify compliance and support continuous improvement in our manufacturing operations.

Minimum Requirements
  • Matric / Grade 12 with Mathematics and Technical Drawing.
  • National Certificate or NQF Level 4/5 qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Quality, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2–3 years\' layout experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to read complex engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of PolyWorks 3D software and ability to create programs with a Romer Arm.
  • Knowledge of SPC.
  • Experience using layout and inspection tools, including micrometers, verniers, height gauges, surface tables, and indicators.
  • Verification of checking fixtures, micrometers, verniers.
  • Good understanding of weld symbols, tolerances, and fabrication processes.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and inspection report formats.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret and apply customer drawings, specifications to layout inspections.
  • Perform accurate dimensional inspections on manufactured components using layout tables, micrometers, vernier calipers, dial gauges, height gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
  • Set up parts on layout tables or surface plates in accordance with inspection protocols and fixture design.
  • Generate and maintain First-Off Inspection Reports (FOIRs), First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs), and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documents where applicable.
  • Collaborate with Quality Control Inspectors, Production Supervisors, and the Engineering team to resolve dimensional non-conformities and support root cause analysis.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and ensure proper care of layout equipment and instruments in line with internal procedures and industry standards.
  • Support quality management system and customer-specific requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Group’s Health & Safety procedures while maintaining a clean and efficient workspace.
  • Provide dimensional verification for pressings, jigs, and tooling setups as needed.
