Job description

We have an opportunity available in Fourways for a HSE Manager in an International Engineering Company (South Africa Focus).

Responsibilities
  • Establish and implement a South Africa-specific HSE management system in accordance with South Africa's Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), National Environmental Management Act (NEMA), and the company's internal HSE standards.
  • Conduct HSE risk assessments and hazard identification based on the characteristics of engineering projects in South Africa (e.g., underground operation risks in mining projects, high-temperature / heavy rainfall impacts on infrastructure projects).
  • Organize HSE training for on-site project teams in South Africa (including local and expatriate employees).
  • Conduct regular HSE inspections and audits at South African project sites.
  • Track and rectify safety violations.
  • Submit HSE reports as required by the South African government.
  • Liaise with South Africa's Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Department of Labor, and local communities.
  • Handle HSE emergencies and promote project compliance.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or above in Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health, or related fields.
  • At least 5 years of HSE management experience in international engineering projects.
  • On-site HSE management experience in South African engineering projects is mandatory (experience in the mining and infrastructure sectors is preferred).
  • Familiarity with the implementation requirements of South African regulations such as OHSA and NEMA.
  • Understanding of typical HSE risks in South Africa's engineering sectors (e.g., mining dust, construction machinery accidents in infrastructure projects) and local environmental characteristics (e.g., water resource management in arid areas, biodiversity conservation).
  • Able to develop HSE plans tailored to local conditions.
  • Strong on-site HSE risk control capabilities and emergency handling skills.

Basic salary of between R to R on offer and negotiable with benefits to be discussed.
