SUMMARY :
A Client is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic HR Assistant to join their team in Durban. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years' experience in Human Resources, with a strong focus on Industrial Relations (IR). This role requires a professional who is well-versed in South African labour legislation, disciplinary procedures, union engagement, and dispute resolution. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the HR department, ensuring compliance with employment laws, and maintaining positive employee relations within the organization.
Position Info
Key Responsibilities :
Industrial Relations (Primary Focus)
- Provide expert support in all IR matters, including handling grievances, disciplinary hearings, and CCMA processes.
- Liaise with union representatives and ensure healthy working relationships with organized labour.
- Assist in the implementation and enforcement of company policies and procedures in line with labour legislation.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date IR documentation and case records.
- Guide line managers on IR best practices and advise on potential legal risks.
- Support preparation of evidence and documentation for dispute resolution or arbitration.
General HR Support
- Assist in recruitment and onboarding processes, including preparing contracts and conducting orientations.
- Maintain employee records, HR databases, and personnel files.
- Support payroll and benefits administration by collecting and verifying relevant employee data.
- Assist with performance management tracking and employee development initiatives.
- Contribute to HR reports, audits, and compliance reviews.
- Provide administrative support for all HR-related activities.
Minimum Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in a Human Resources role, with a focus on Industrial Relations.
- In-depth knowledge of South African labour law (BCEA, LRA, EEA, etc.).
- Experience handling disciplinary procedures, union engagement, and CCMA representation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong administrative and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office and HR information systems.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Human Resource Management, Labour Relations, or related field.
- Additional IR / Legal qualifications or certifications (advantageous).
