About the job Health and Safety Coordinator/ Officer

Duties and responsibilities:

• PPE management
• Facilitate distribution of clean laundry
• Housekeeping and stock control
• Communication with relevant heads of department
• Cooperate with HSE site team for control of the HSE documentation drawn up by the contractor and, if necessary, make amendments to it.
• Implement, support, and monitor all initiatives aimed at improving safety and environmental standards on site cooperating with the site HSE team, and providing timely information on events of interest.
• Draw up periodic reporting of KPIs to HSEQ department in compliance with Project Companys guidelines.
• Investigation of incidents (near misses, emergency situation, first aid) analysing the information, defining the root cause, identifying risk control measures, and formulating report & action plan for implementation.
• Plan and organise internal HSE inspections with the contractor and sub-contractors in order to verify the effectiveness of the HSE management system.
• Eliminate or reduce the risks of occupational health and safety and/or environmental in the work sites activities.
• Identifying non-compliance with HSE processes/work activities helping to ensure prompt corrective remedial actions.
• Arrange internal HSE review meetings: site safety committee meetings, pre-job safety review meetings & communication meetings with the line managers.
• Ensure that Contractors training and awareness programs are carried out as planned.
• Ensure HSE legal requirement compliance by contractor companies in assigned Project.
• Detect needs to standardize critical activities based on field evaluations.
• Propose standards or procedures to standardize certain activities.
• Support the HSE site team to ensure that Contractors and, where appropriate, subcontractors consistently and responsibly apply the principles of preventive action.

Qualifications and experience:

• Matric
• Post-matric qualification in H&S (cert/ diploma/ degree- preference given to those with highest qualification)
• Minimum 2 years experience in H&S role
• We are looking for candidates with a BSC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Btech is second prize)
• Must have completed their internship- not at a university or with a municipality please, must be in a production/ manufacturing environment
• 1 year work experience minimum, so this would be their first proper job
