Overview

Position: Group Manager – Legal Services

Location: Johannesburg, South Africa

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic legal counsel across all company subsidiaries to mitigate risk and enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement legal compliance strategies aligned with healthcare regulations and corporate governance.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts including MOU's, SLA's, lease and property agreements, consultancy and IT contracts.
  • Lead legal due diligence for business transactions and manage disputes with third parties.
  • Advise EXCO and internal departments (HR, Finance, Procurement, IT, Health & Safety) on legal matters including employment law, POPIA, and medical risk.
  • Represent in litigation and arbitration, preparing legal briefs and instructions for counsel.
  • Monitor and interpret national legislation affecting healthcare and corporate operations.
  • Ensure contract governance, maintain legal document registers, and support audit readiness.
  • Oversee tender submissions, RFP drafting, and vendor compliance.
  • Champion POPIA compliance and intellectual property protection.
  • Manage legal budgets, procurement, and team performance.
Qualifications & Experience
  • LLB degree (essential); MBA or equivalent (advantageous – NQF Level 9+)
  • Admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa
  • CGISA registration as Chartered Secretary or Governance Professional (advantageous)
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in legal, risk, and compliance - Medical / Healthcare
  • Proven track record in drafting legal opinions and leading legal teams (5+ years at management level)
  • Expertise in Medical Law, National Health Act, Contract Law, Labour Law, POPIA, and procurement processes
