Lead Mental Health Services Across Greater Newcastle

Hunter New England Mental Health is seeking a committed and experienced Service Manager - Greater Newcastle & Intake to lead the delivery of high‑quality community mental health services across the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie regions.

This pivotal leadership role oversees the Community Mental Health Teams and Intake Services ensuring safe efficient and person‑centred mental health care across the Local Health District.

About the Role

The Greater Newcastle Service Manager is responsible for the operational leadership, governance and performance of community and intake services within the district. You will ensure the delivery of high‑quality evidence‑based mental health care while maintaining compliance across safety, staffing, budget, quality and data reporting requirements.

You will work closely with the Mental Health Executive, operational leaders, professional discipline leads and key external partners including NGOs, Primary Health Networks, councils, aged care providers and community organisations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide day‑to‑day operational leadership to Greater Newcastle Community Mental Health teams and Intake services.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government and non‑government partners to deliver integrated, accessible community services.
  • Ensure effective resource coordination across human, financial and physical resources within budget and performance targets.
  • Lead a positive, collaborative, outcome‑focused workplace culture across multiple locations.
  • Manage essential workforce functions including rostering, recruitment, induction, performance reviews, development and performance management.
  • Ensure service compliance with clinical governance, safety, work health and safety and quality frameworks.
  • Promote behaviours aligned with the HNE Health Values Charter, NSW Health Code of Conduct and Excellence Framework.
  • Oversee quality and safety practices, identifying and managing risks within delegated authority.
  • Navigate complex operational challenges while contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Monitor clinical services and activity to effectively manage human, financial and physical resources.
  • Build and maintain a constructive professional culture during times of change.
