A regional park service is seeking seasonal Gate Attendants for the summer of 2026. This role involves greeting visitors, collecting fees, and assisting the public in enjoying park facilities. The East Bay Regional Park District is looking for former staff that are interested in working as Gate Attendants for the 2026 summer season. Please note that if you previously worked in a hybrid role as a Gate Attendant/Student Laborer, you will have to apply for these positions separately to be considered for both. We are not hiring candidates in hybrid or dual roles for the upcoming 2026 season.
These are seasonal positions, paid by the hour, typically not lasting more than six months in duration. Work schedules may be full‑time or part‑time depending on the needs of the park. Parks with an early need for part‑time and weekend work will be making job offers as their vacancies become open. Candidates interested in this opportunity are encouraged to apply as early as possible as this is the only opportunity to apply for this position as a returning Gate Attendant.
Greets visitors; opens up the kiosk for daily operation; collects park fees, provides accurate change, issues receipts, and accurately maintains deposit logs and accounts for all revenue collected during the shift; maintains inventories of necessary supplies; responds to visitor questions and assists park users, including providing brochures, giving directions, taking reservations, and conveying park rules and regulations; communicates with staff and public safety officials during emergencies; conducts litter pick‑up surrounding kiosk; opens parking and swimming areas; reports public hazards; and performs related duties as assigned.
Age: 15 ½ or older at the time of appointment.
Experience: None.
Other: Bilingual or multi‑lingual skills are highly desirable. Administrative and cash handling skills are also highly desirable.
Park rules and regulations; cash handling procedures; park amenities including trails; basic math skills; how to operate automated cash drawer and other electronic equipment including phone and communications radio; excellent customer service principles; verbal communication skills and competent mathematical skills.
Conduct monetary transactions in a variety of forms (cash, credit, electronic); handle cash, count correct change, record transactions; learn to operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications; follow directions; remain calm under pressure; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work at all levels, including a culturally diverse general public, with a focus on quality service to internal staff and external customers.
Candidates can only be considered for one seasonal position, not dual roles are permitted for the upcoming season.

Application materials for all applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed by a screening panel to select the best qualified for testing and/or interview. Candidates whose qualifications best match District needs will be invited to participate in the examination process, consisting of a 15‑minute online math/cash‑handling test (new Gate Attendants only). Human Resources will establish a hiring list as a result of this exam and candidates on the list are eligible for referral to the hiring supervisors for interviews and possible selection. Possession of minimum qualifications does not guarantee an invitation to test and/or interview.

The individuals chosen for hire must be able to pass a criminal background check prior to employment.
