Job description

Our mine, situated in the Limpopo Province about 60 kilometers from Lydenburg and 40 kilometers from Burgersfort, is a world-class producer of Chrome Ore.

The successful applicant will report to the Fitter or nominee.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Grade 10 / Standard 8 Certificate.
  • Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence.
  • Advantageous: Operative Course Certificate.
EXPERIENCE (including but not limited to)
  • Advantageous: 3 months practical trade-related experience in a heavy industrial / mining / plant environment.
DUTIES (including but not limited to)
  • Assist in ensuring optimum availability and reliability of equipment in support of effective and continuously improved mine operations. Assist and execute maintenance on mining equipment including modifications and repairs.
  • Conduct mini risk assessment in own area of work and within span of control. Ensure own work area is clean at all times. Ensure all equipment and tools are cleaned after use and stored in Storeroom. Ensure that personal/artisan’s tools are complete and in safe working condition.
  • Work independently and under the supervision of the artisan. Ensure tasks are completed according to set requirements and standards. Tasks include: Remove and replace of hydraulic hoses, greasing machines, remove and replace shanks. Tasks assisting the artisan include: Remove and replace engines, cylinders, gearboxes, pumps and changing of tyres and pulleys.
  • Adhere to planned maintenance / production schedules and break downs to assist in achieving production throughout. Assume responsibility for the safe and optimal use of equipment and related machinery.
  • All defects and status of tools and equipment recorded, signed and handed over to Chargehand/Foreman. Operate stationary and mobile engineering equipment. Perform lock-out procedure when required. Tools, material and equipment are utilized according to SOP's.
  • Assist the artisans in the maintenance primary and secondary equipment when instructed (perform partly independent to the level of competence). All production equipment is maintained reactively and on a scheduled basis to ensure equipment availability and reliability. Breakdowns are attended to immediately to restore availability and to the supervisor/Control Room.
