Job summary

A dynamic investment group in Sandton is seeking a Financial Accountant (Head of Finance) to oversee accounting and compliance across multiple entities. The role requires strong experience in VAT, management accounts, and AFS preparation, alongside excellent analytical skills. Qualifications

  • 3–6 years’ accounting experience across multiple entities.
  • Familiar with CIPC and SARS eFiling.
  • Understanding of IFRS for SMEs and South African compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records for all entities.
  • Prepare and submit VAT201 returns via SARS eFiling.
  • Draft Annual Financial Statements in line with IFRS for SMEs.
  • Monitor cash flow and assist with forecasting.
  • Implement and maintain internal financial controls.

Our client, a dynamic investment group with interests across property, private equity, and hospitality, is seeking a Financial Accountant (Head of Finance) to oversee accounting, reporting, and compliance across a portfolio of entities.

This role is perfect for a hands-on, detail-oriented finance professional who enjoys autonomy, variety, and exposure to multiple industries.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain accurate financial records for all entities using Xero
  • Process and reconcile invoices, payments, journals, and intercompany transfers
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, trial balances, and reconciliations
Compliance & Reporting
  • Prepare and submit VAT201 returns via SARS eFiling
  • Manage CIPC annual returns and Beneficial Ownership declarations
  • Assist with PAYE, provisional tax, and other SARS submissions
Financial Statements & Audit Preparation
  • Draft Annual Financial Statements (AFS) in line with IFRS for SMEs
  • Collate audit schedules and liaise with auditors during annual reviews
  • Ensure all entities remain compliant and audit-ready year-round
  • Maintain up-to-date compliance records for all entities
  • Standardise financial processes and chart of accounts
  • Monitor cash flow and assist with forecasting and payment planning
  • Implement and maintain internal financial controls
Strategic & Coordination Support
  • Act as the main contact between management, external accountants, and SARS
  • Provide management with financial insights and reports
  • Support special projects such as new entity setups and due diligence processes
Requirements
  • BCom Accounting / Financial Management or equivalent
  • 3–6 years’ accounting experience, ideally across multiple entities or group structures
  • Strong knowledge of VAT, management accounts, and AFS preparation
  • Familiar with CIPC and SARS eFiling
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with CaseWare (advantageous)
  • Understanding of IFRS for SMEs and South African compliance standards
