Job description
Job Responsibilities

To supervise the operation and production of cups, die cutting, hand fab and wrapper cups and to ensure the required efficiency to accepted quality standards and productivity targets, as set by Detpak South Africa are met.

Factory supervisors are responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and executing daily tasks in line with the production schedule.

  • Supervision of departmental personnel and allocation of labour resources in line with the weekly production schedule
  • Ensure machines are running to specification speed and daily production targets are being achieved
  • Coordinate and ensure WIP material availability for Handfab
  • Promote safe working practices and ensures all plant rules are adhered to
  • Report any unsafe machine or workplace practice immediately to the Factory Manager
  • Set‑up departmental machines, within specified set‑up times and to standard waste levels
  • Assist machine operators and minders with trouble‑shooting and fine‑tuning of machines to achieve required speeds and quality standards
  • Coordinate the cleaning, lubricating and maintaining of machines, tools, equipment and work areas to ensure proper functioning and safe working conditions, so as to achieve maximum output and minimal waste
  • Ensure production housekeeping standards are achieved and maintained
  • Report any mechanical/electrical breakdown to the Maintenance Manager immediately
  • Complete the maintenance job card book accurately and submit to the Maintenance Manager
  • Weigh or measure materials and products to ensure conformance to specifications when required
  • Inspect materials and products for defects and to ensure conformance to specifications when required
  • Sort, select and stack materials, products and reject defects following specified instructions and standards when required
  • Add/adjust chemicals, solutions, inks to machines and equipment to ensure manufacturing process meets specification
  • Able to work overtime when required
Skills Required
  • Conduct training and development of departmental personnel
  • Investigate and present improvements to processes and productivity
  • Check and record daily production and downtime into efficiency report
  • Issue tools at commencement of shift and check in tools at completion of shift, using the tooling checklist
  • Clean machine as required and as per cleaning checklist
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in the machine area
  • Assist in the operation of other machines as directed by management
  • Work with packers and assist in packing as required
  • Will work overtime and weekends as directed by management
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Previous experience in a supervisory capacity
  • 4+ years’ manufacturing plant experience
  • Previous experience in the set‑up, operation and troubleshooting of cup making machines, printing machines etc.
  • Able-bodied and capable of physical work
  • Capable of understanding and implementing product quality standards and packing specifications and safety standards
  • Demonstrated people and leadership skills
