Job Description

Summary: AECOM is seeking a Graduate Environmental Data Specialist to support our enterprise environmental data management system (EarthSoft EQuIS). The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of environmental data and terminology, good communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work opportunity including both in-office and remote work schedules from one of our offices in South Africa (Cape Town, Pretoria, Durban).

Role and Responsibilities
  • Understand requests from environmental subject matter experts.
  • Communicate new functions and features with users and demonstrate environmental data terminology.
  • Analyze diverse situations or data requiring evaluation of various factors including current business trends.
  • Prepare and update environmental reports, transforming and analyzing large and diverse datasets.
  • Translate environmental problems through digital and data solutions; maintain data quality at all levels and scales.
  • Develop custom reports and user‑requested queries and views on various platforms.
  • Provide responsive technical support to field sampling teams and liaise among project staff, analytical laboratory, data validator, and GIS analysts.
  • Research state and federal regulations relevant to cleanup criteria.
Qualifications

Professional qualification & Experience desired:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, civil, or chemical engineering or science (or related discipline) with a focus on Environmental Data and at least two (2) years of experience in the environmental domain. Preferably with relevant environmental data experience.

Skills Required:

  • Proficient in data management and transformations using spreadsheets and databases.
  • Expertise with environmental data and database systems (MS SQL Server, MS Access) and EQuIS platform (EQuIS, EIM, ESdat). Familiarity with Collect, Edge, ArcGIS is desirable.
  • Ability to support global project delivery within deadlines, managing geological, field, laboratory data for technical reports.
  • Experience preparing report‑ready data tables, charts, and figures for internal and external reports.
  • Knowledge of visualization tools such as Power BI is desirable.
  • Programming experience (Python, R) a plus; understanding of AI/ML and data science desirable.
  • Strong Office 365, Excel, Power Query & Power Automate skills.
  • Strong analytical, judgment and problem‑solving capabilities; attention to detail.
  • Comfortable conducting meetings and presentations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in environmental, civil or chemical engineering or related discipline focused on Environmental Data.
  • Minimum of three (3+) years of relevant environmental domain experience.
