Job summary

A leading South African bank is on the lookout for an energetic Employee/Labour Relations specialist. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive advice to employees and management, ensure adherence to policies, and represent the bank in disputes at the CCMA. Required is a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a Labour/Employee Relations environment, proving to be effective in conciliations and hearings. A passion for service and commitment to diversity is essential.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years' specialist experience within a Labour/Employee Relations environment.
  • Proven experience in conducting conciliations and arbitrations at the CCMA.
  • Proven experience in conducting, initiating and chairing disciplinary hearings.

Purpose Statement

This position is open to applicants in Gauteng and Western Cape.

Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist Employee/Labour relations advice and training to Capitec Bank employees and management on all aspects of Employee Relations related matters.
  • Ensure that Employee Relations policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Represent Capitec Bank at the CCMA in the event of disputes.
Experience

Minimum:

  • At least 3‑5 years’ specialist experience within a Labour / Employee Relations environment, including CCMA, Labour Court, Disciplinary, EE etc.
  • Proven experience in conducting conciliations and arbitrations at the CCMA.
  • Proven experience in conducting, initiating and chairing disciplinary hearings.

Ideal:

  • Experience with the negotiation process with unions would be an added advantage.
  • Proven experience in conducting research for the draft of new or updating of existing ER policies and practices.
  • Experience within a banking / financial / retail environment would be an added advantage.
Qualifications (Minimum)
  • Grade 12 National Certificate / Vocational.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Labour Law or Industrial/Employee Relations.
Qualifications (Ideal or Preferred)
  • A relevant post‑graduate qualification in Labour Law or Industrial/Employee Relations.
Knowledge

Minimum:

  • Conducting research.
  • Litigation at the CCMA level.
  • Employee/Labour Relations practices & procedures.
  • Key legislative requirements related to Employee Relations, including:
    • Labour Relations Act.
    • Basic Conditions of Employment Act.
    • Employment Equity Act.
  • Processes for:
    • Conciliation and arbitration at the CCMA.
    • Conducting disciplinary hearings.
    • Investigations.
  • Liaison with external bodies and specialists:
    • Department of Labour.
    • CCMA.
    • Labour Court.
    • Attorneys.
    • Unions.
Ideal
  • Capitec Bank policies and procedures related to ER.
  • Capitec Bank branch products and systems.
