Purpose of the position:

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. As an Electrical Engineer, you will work closely with the Team Leader and other team members.

Qualifications/Experience:
  • B. Eng/B Sc in Electrical Engineering.
  • ECSA registered as a Pr. Eng
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience.
  • Driver’s license and means of transport.
  • +3 years' relevant working experience in the Petrochemical industry with a proven track record in design, commissioning and operation support.
  • Zero tolerance towards unsafe designs, acts, hazards and a passion for a zero-harm culture through safe engineering solutions.
  • Knowledge of applicable design codes, standards and regulations.
  • Ability to work across disciplines, have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
  • Must be capable of evaluating and weighing alternatives, establishing relative priorities and formulating decisions that affect all phases of projects and the complete life cycle of proposed engineering solutions.
  • Must be able to develop fit-for-purpose solutions for partners to create long-term relationships.
  • Main experience gained in a consulting environment.
  • Brownfields project execution experience, and
  • Key computer proficiency:
  • MicroStation and AutoCAD,
  • EPLAN (Advantageous), and
  • MS Office Suite.
  • ETAP and/or DIgSILENT (Wish),
Required Outputs and Responsibilities:
  • The Electrical Engineer will report to the team leader within the Department for Electrical Engineering and Design.
  • Managing self-responsibility regarding time, attendance and quality.
  • Provide technical input for basic and detailed design.
  • Assist in planning and reviewing technical work and maintaining project schedules and work plans.
  • Translate electrical design intention across disciplines during the design phase and manage interfaces.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals for bid clarifications.
  • Design of electrical distribution systems.
  • Design schematic and connection diagrams for electrical equipment.
  • Review client proposals in terms of electrical design.
  • Assist in planning and reviewing technical work and maintaining project schedules and work plans.
  • Preparation of quotations.
  • As-building of existing electrical installations.
  • Fault finding on existing electrical systems.
  • Perform point-to-point wiring and functional checks on LV and MV equipment.
  • Assist with commissioning support for new electrical systems.
  • Good understanding of standards to evaluate the quality of installed electrical systems.
  • Willing to travel outside of Secunda for work at times.
