Job description

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Business Development Manager, the incumbent must have previous experience driving code 10 trucks (8 ton) and possess a valid PrDP. The role involves professionally interacting with clients and being responsible for safely transporting finished products from the factory to customers, ensuring damage-free, on-time, and complete deliveries.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Completing and submitting vehicle checklists at the start of each shift; reporting damages immediately.
  • Maintaining accurate delivery notebooks and checklists for every load, recording stock correctly.
  • Performing relevant quality checks as per procedures.
  • Securing and properly loading the load, ensuring no damage occurs during transit.
  • Promptly acting on requests and reporting challenges immediately.
  • Assisting with stock scanning and invoicing when required.
  • Maintaining constant communication with supervisors regarding traffic or customer delays.
  • Overseeing forklift drivers, checking stock, and coordinating load preparations to expedite loading.
  • Supervising loading and offloading to prevent damage to the truck and curtains.
  • Keeping a company cell phone in the truck and ensuring constant availability.
  • Conducting regular vehicle inspections before trips, including lights, tyres, fluid levels, and other critical checks.
  • Ensuring curtains are closed and secured before departure.
  • Performing visual quality checks on received stock and verifying documentation before departure.
  • Adhering to safety regulations, driver operating procedures, and the Road Traffic Act.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of the truck through regular washing.
  • Reporting damages, accidents, or incidents immediately.
  • Performing any other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Code 10 driver’s license with valid PrDP
  • 2-3 years’ experience driving 8-ton trucks
  • Clean driving record
  • Physical fitness for long hours and heavy cargo handling
  • Knowledge of road safety regulations
  • Computer literacy
  • Familiarity with scanning systems (e.g., WMS)
  • Effective communication and influence skills

  • Internal: Operations Managers, SHEQ personnel, Admin, Finance, HR, Sales departments
  • External: Clients
