Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in engineering is required.
- A Master’s degree in Engineering Management is preferred and beneficial for securing this role.
- 15+ years of engineering experience
- Minimum of 5 years proven track record of leading and mentoring a team.
- Willing to relocate to the USA
- Willing to travel overseas for variable periods
- South African Citizenship
Job Description
- The Director of Engineering will develop and manage the direction and daily activities of the Company's Engineering team of one of the truck platforms with a focus on people, organization, and process. The position will oversee process improvements to the product development process, lead the development of reporting managers and oversee the development of others in the department.
- Interact with all levels of company management, including Operations, Purchasing, Quality Control, Sales, Marketing and Finance. Ability to work closely with key suppliers and key customers is essential.
- The Engineering Director will report to the Vice President of Engineering / Chief Engineer at Autocar.
- Lead and mentor the Engineering Organization, providing technical leadership and direction to engineers and program teams.
- Support product planning by understanding customers' wants, needs, and vocational use cases.
- Incorporate company strategy, industry developments, regulatory requirements, customer input, and long-term supplier relationships to develop robust and cost-effective vehicle products.
- Develop robust product concepts, design for manufacturability, and optimize component cost.
- Train Engineering team to improve their current roles and prepare them for future roles in the company, including use of the full scope of processes, systems, and analysis tools.
- Analyze and resolve problems and provide technical assistance as necessary.
- Collaborate with colleagues to deliver results in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Develop robust product concepts with the platform / project team, maintain or exceed quality expectations, deliver on project timelines, and ensure clear communication with customers and a sense of urgency.
