Design Technician
The purpose of the Design Technician role is to support our technical and engineering teams by producing accurate, compliant, and well-presented CAD drawings that underpin high-quality below-ground substructure and structural waterproofing solutions.
Purpose of the Role
The role exists to:
- Translate technical concepts, design intent, and specifications into clear and accurate CAD drawings
- Support engineers and technical managers with reliable design information
- Ensure drawings meet internal standards, industry best practice, and project requirements
- Maintain consistency, accuracy, and efficiency across all technical drawing outputs
In short, the Design Technician ensures that our technical designs are communicated clearly, accurately, and professionally through high-quality CAD documentation.
Working Pattern & Reporting
Role Type: Full Time (07:30 – 17:00)
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday
Reporting To: Technical Lead (or Internal Design Manager)

Core Responsibilities
You are accountable for CAD Drawing Production
- Produce detailed CAD drawings using AutoCAD to support design and engineering requirements
- Develop construction details, layouts, and technical drawings for below-ground substructure and structural waterproofing solutions
- Interpret sketches, mark‑ups, specifications, and design information accurately
- Update and revise drawings in line with feedback from engineers, technical managers, or clients
Technical Support & Collaboration
- Work closely with the internal technical team to understand project requirements and design intent
- Support engineers with drawing production during concept, detailed design, and construction phases
- Communicate clearly with colleagues to clarify technical details and resolve queries
Quality Control & Accuracy
- Carry out self‑check and quality reviews on all drawings prior to issue
- Ensure drawings are accurate, complete, and coordinated
- Maintain drawing consistency, correct layering, scales, and annotations
Document & File Management
- Maintain an organised and logical CAD file structure
- Ensure drawings are correctly named, version controlled, and archived
- Support the maintenance of standard details, libraries, and templates
Continuous Improvement
- Support the development and refinement of standard details and drawing practices
- Keep up to date with CAD standards, software updates, and industry developments
- Contribute to improving drawing efficiency and quality across the business

Requirements
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Strong understanding of technical drawings, plans, sections, and details
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Effective communication skills
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience in below-ground substructure design and/or structural waterproofing
- Previous experience in a design, engineering, or construction-related environment
- Relevant qualification or training in engineering, construction, or design
