Job Summary:

Sulzer is looking for an experienced Lead Design/Reverse Engineering Specialist, who will manage all mechanical design activities relating to retrofit engineering through the design stage, to handover, to production, observing the need to apply on time and cost-effective solutions and ensuring costs are controlled within the estimates provided. Work with and support tendering, projects, production, quality, etc. on issues within field of knowledge. As required, providing support to the wider Service network

In this role, you will be accountable for:

  • Deputizes for the Head of Engineering where appropriate
  • Instruct, direct, develop, motivate, supervise, and monitor the performance of all members of the allocated team
  • Provision of technical advice and support to internal and external customers
  • Attendance, where appropriate, at client meetings to support Sales, Tendering and Projects with technical advice or justifications
  • Undertake responsibility for all design, processing and supporting activities for the assigned projects, including, where appropriate, pre-sales support
  • Compile/oversee engineering retrofit design studies for each order or contract and arrange specialist support assistance when required ensuring compliance with specifications
  • Create, review and approve specifications, calculations, drawings, requisitions, and bill of materials to satisfy design, manufacture, and customer requirements
  • Compile/oversee the specification and ordering of factored equipment such as motors, gearboxes, lube oil systems, mechanical seals, seal systems and couplings, etc
  • Coordinate/oversee design review process and records
  • Observe the need to apply cost effective solutions and retrofits that add value to our customers
  • Ensure product development ideas are passed to the appropriate channels
  • Prepare monthly workload reports from the allocated team as required
  • Participate in review of non-conformance reports, warranties, etc., to identify trends and act to eliminate root causes
  • Perform the required administrative roles as required within the job title
  • Participate and actively support company initiatives. (E.g. digitization and sustainability projects)
  • Ensure your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your acts or omissions
  • Co-operate with the requirements of the Environmental, Health, Safety, and Energy management systems
  • Co-operate with the company to enable it to discharge its own responsibilities effectively
  • All other duties relevant to the post

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent experience
  • 10 Years of relevant experience within related industry including knowledge of industry practices & standards
  • Good pump product design understanding
