Our Client a Global Consulting firm is in search of a Deputy CFO to join their Finance team.

You will occupy a pivotal leadership role within the financial operations of the organisation serving as the right hand to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

This role straddles both strategic and operational responsibilities requiring a deep knowledge of financial management regulatory compliance team leadership and business acumen.

It is also earmarked with a succession plan in place to become the CFO within the next 3 years.

Main Purpose of the Role

The Deputy CFO is entrusted with overseeing daily financial activities, implementing strategic initiatives, ensuring the integrity of financial information, and providing expert guidance and oversight to the finance department.

One would describe you as a strategic thinker with strong financial analysis, planning and reporting skills. Further to this you are a natural leader with the ability to inspire, lead and develop teams to achieve high performance. You thrive in fast‑paced environments and enjoy turning complex problems into clear actionable insights.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborating with the CFO to develop financial strategies that align with the organisations goals and long‑term vision.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis
  • Ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements.
  • Establishing and monitoring internal controls to mitigate financial risks.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations and standards such as IFRS, GAAP, tax requirements and company policies.
  • Overseeing the day‑to‑day operations of the finance department including accounts payable / receivable, payroll, treasury, audit coordination and procurement policy implementation.
  • Leading process improvement initiatives to increase operational efficiency.
  • Developing and leading people.
  • Fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Taking responsibility for succession planning, talent development and performance management within the finance function.
  • Ensuring stakeholders are managed and supported with efficient and effective communication.
  • Driving functional improvement through use of technology and systems management.
Qualifications and Experience
  • A CA (SA) or Masters Degree (e.g. MBA or MFin). Professional certification is a minimum requirement (ACCA, CPA or CMA).
  • 10 Years progressive responsibility with finance or accounting experience as well as proven ability in producing of management accounts and financial reporting is required.
  • 35 Years in a leading / managing a small team of Finance professionals within a medium scaling multi‑national environment.
  • Working knowledge of SA and UK taxes is ideal.
  • Experience in the industry or sector relevant to the organisation is advantageous i.e. Consulting / Advisory / Professional Services / Engineering / Financial Services.
  • Working knowledge data privacy regulations such as POPIA and GDPR.
  • Proven and solid proficiency on MS Excel is required.
  • Efficiency with finance and ERP systems such as Sage 200 Evolution Sage 300 People or similar.
