Job Title: Sybase Specialist

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Sybase Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Sybase ASE administration, performance tuning, and high availability solutions, along with solid Linux and scripting skills. This role involves managing complex database environments, ensuring optimal performance, and supporting critical business applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Installation & Maintenance: Install, configure, and maintain Sybase ASE on Linux platforms.
• Performance & Tuning: Optimize indexes, stored procedures, and queries for maximum efficiency.
• Monitoring: Utilize MDA tables, query metrics, and tools like SCOM, Dynatrace, and Zabbix to monitor database health and resolve blocking/locking issues.
• Database Maintenance: Perform backups, disaster recovery, DBCC checks, data loading/unloading (BCP/CIS), space management, and index maintenance.
• Security & User Management: Implement internal/external authentication (LDAP) and manage Sybase ASE rights structure.
• T‑SQL Development: Create and maintain DDL/DML objects, stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
• Migration: Lead migration projects from Sybase ASE 15.7 to 16.0.
• High Availability: Configure and manage SAP Sybase Replication Server and HADR solutions.
• Incident Management: Provide flexible support for diverse applications, troubleshoot issues, and perform root cause analysis.

Requirements

Must-Have Skills

• Strong experience with Sybase ASE 15.7 and 16.0.
• Proficiency in Linux administration and Shell scripting.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Familiarity with DevOps tools (Azure), version control systems (Subversion, Git).
• Experience with PowerShell, Commvault, and Jams.
• Exposure to other database systems: MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, Hadoop.
• Expertise in Open-Client programming, CIS, and client tools (DBIsql, ASEIsql, Sybase Central, SCC, DBA Cockpit, DBeaver).
• Solid understanding of performance tuning, monitoring, and database maintenance.
• Hands‑on experience with security management, T‑SQL programming, and migration projects.
• Knowledge of high availability solutions (Replication Server, HADR).
