Job summary

A leading PQS consultancy in Cape Town seeks an experienced Quantity Surveyor to oversee cost estimation and contract management for commercial and residential projects. The candidate should possess a BSc in Quantity Surveying and be SACQSP registered with approximately 10 years of experience, including proficiency in Win QS and DimX. A remuneration package of R60,000 – R70,000 is offered, along with performance bonuses and travel reimbursement.

Introduction

Employer Description: This is a PQS consultancy.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop accurate cost estimates for projects, including materials, labour, and other expenses based on design specifications.
  • Monitor project costs throughout construction, identify and address potential overruns, and ensure the project stays within budget.
  • Prepare tender documents, manage the tendering process, and evaluate bids from contractors.
  • Manage contracts, including negotiating terms, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with contract conditions.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize costs and improve value for money without compromising quality.
  • Analyse potential risks associated with the project (cost fluctuations, material shortages, or delays) and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of variations or changes to the original design and ensure they are properly managed and accounted for.
  • Handle contractual claims and disputes, provide expert advice, and facilitate negotiations.
  • Act as a mediator or arbitrator in construction disputes, helping to resolve conflicts efficiently and fairly.
  • Prepare regular cost reports and provide updates to clients and stakeholders on project progress and financial performance.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to assess the viability of proposed projects from a financial perspective.
  • Utilise BIM software to create 3D models and manage project data for cost estimation and other purposes.
  • Incorporate sustainable practices and materials into projects, considering environmental impact and long-term cost savings.
