Job description

To lead the credit control function by managing a high-performing team responsible

for the effective oversight of debtor accounts. This includes reducing overdue debt,

ensuring legal and compliance requirements are met, and enhancing business efficiency

through process control, automation initiatives, and risk management.

Team & Operational Management

  • Lead and manage the inland credit control team to meet and exceed performance targets.
  • Coach and train team members, emphasizing reconciliation quality and technical development.
  • Develop three internal superusers and maintain an effective performance management system.
  • Mentor and guide the team on legislative requirements (e.g., National Credit Act) and best practices.

Credit & Collections

  • Maintain accurate debtor journals and reconciliations.
  • Ensure efficient and timely collections to reduce overdue debt and support cash flow.
  • Oversee credit applications, limit reviews, and the credit re-invoice process.
  • Manage write-offs and settlement discounts in line with company policy.
  • Maintain a credit vetting system to balance revenue growth with credit risk mitigation.

Account and Cash Management

  • Monitor and manage unallocated cash and ensure proper allocations.
  • Enforce CBD (Cash Before Delivery) account rules and manage exceptions.
  • Perform daily allocation checks and exception analysis.
  • Regularly review and validate debtor balances for accuracy and compliance with policies and legislation.

Process & Systems Oversight

  • Manage the legal book with full documentation and compliance.
  • Oversee daily workflow checks and archiving.
  • Handle all aspects of BTS Web, banking platforms, refunds, flipping, and proof-of-delivery processes (Capisol / manual and electronic).
  • Implement a structured system for workflow monitoring and error detection.

Compliance, Reporting & Audit

  • Maintain internal controls and support audit and risk management functions.
  • Ensure timely and thorough weekly reporting, including red flags and delays; escalate as necessary and follow up with Sales.
  • Deliver exception, analytical, and key financial reports (weekly and monthly).
  • Play a key role in both internal and external audit processes.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with internal teams including Sales, Branch Managers, and Finance to manage interdepartmental dependencies.
  • Oversee staff purchase and deduction processing within the credit team.
  • Lead master data management and implement checks to ensure data accuracy.
  • Communicate and provide technical direction to stakeholders, including customers, on credit matters.

Process Improvement & Key Projects

  • Lead initiatives to optimise and semi-automate debtor processes.
  • Continuously identify and implement enhancements to credit control procedures.
  • Develop systems for proactive monitoring and management of outstanding debtor balances.
  • Implement review processes for credit notes, discounts, and other account adjustments.
  • Develop and deliver a structured training program covering procedures, policies, and legislation.

Other Duties

  • Maintain up-to-date policies and procedures for the Debtors’ function.
  • Ensure full function coverage with adequate backups.
  • Perform ad hoc reporting and project-related tasks as required.

Qualifications & Experience :

  • Tertiary qualification Credit Management or similar.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years’ experience in a credit control leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of debtor systems, legislation (e.g., NCA), and credit vetting principles.
  • Proven ability to manage teams, processes, and cross-functional projects effectively.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
