Overview
The Courier Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day courier and delivery operations within an allocated area or branch. The role ensures that all parcels and shipments are processed, routed, and delivered efficiently, within required service levels, and in line with company standards, health and safety regulations, and customer expectations.
Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Supervise daily courier activities, including parcel sorting, scanning, routing, and delivery.
- Allocate and monitor driver routes, ensuring timeous and cost-efficient deliveries.
- Oversee hub/branch operations to maintain optimal service levels.
- Ensure proper handling of parcels to minimize damages, losses, or delays.
Staff Supervision & Development
- Supervise, motivate, and guide drivers, couriers, and warehouse staff.
- Conduct daily operational briefings and assign duties.
- Monitor staff attendance, performance, and adherence to policies.
- Train staff on systems, procedures, and customer service standards.
Customer Service
- Act as a first point of escalation for customer complaints or delivery queries.
- Ensure service excellence and maintain strong relationships with clients.
- Investigate and resolve delivery discrepancies or parcel losses.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with company policies, labour legislation, and health & safety standards.
- Complete and submit daily/weekly operational reports (volumes, delays, costs, incidents).
- Monitor KPI performance such as on-time delivery, returns, and service failures.
- Ensure fleet compliance, including vehicle maintenance checks, fuel usage, and licensing.
Process & Continuous Improvement
- Identify operational inefficiencies and recommend process improvements.
- Implement and enforce best practices in parcel handling and delivery.
- Support new initiatives and projects to enhance delivery performance.
Qualifications & Experience
- Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent (essential).
- Diploma or certificate in Logistics / Supply Chain / Operations Management (advantageous).
- 3–5 years’ experience in courier, logistics, or transport operations.
- Proven supervisory or team leader experience within a fast-paced operational environment.
- Strong knowledge of courier processes, delivery routing, and tracking systems.
- Valid driver’s license (essential).
