About the Job: The Compliance Manager is responsible for establishing, developing, implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving the end-to-end compliance function and regulatory frameworks at the company. This includes creating the compliance framework, setting strategic direction, embedding regulatory compliance across business operations, and promoting a strong culture of integrity and ethical conduct. The role requires a visionary compliance leader able to ensure adherence to all statutory, regulatory, internal policy, industry, and voluntary standards relating to wet milling and the production of glucose, starch, and grain-based products.

Academic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., law, commerce, risk or related field)
  • Compliance qualification from a recognised body, e.g., CPrac(SA)
Work Experience
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in regulatory compliance management
  • 3 years of compliance experience in a manufacturing, mining, or industrial environment (Essential)
  • Sound and proven track record in a compliance management role
  • Experience working with governance committees and regulators
  • Experience in delivering compliance training and supporting audits
Knowledge

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and embed a fit‑for‑purpose, risk‑based Compliance Management Framework aligned with applicable ISO standards and legal and governance principles
  • Establish and maintain the company's Compliance Universe, mapping all applicable laws, regulations, standards, permits, and internal obligations
  • Identify and categorise compliance risks across strategic, operational, financial, and reputational domains
  • Monitor and interpret laws, regulations, and codes of conduct applicable to manufacturing (wet milling), including but not limited to: food safety/quality and processing standards, environmental legislation, health and safety laws, competition law, customs and excise, aviation and airfield compliance, labour laws, FICA, POPIA, and PAIA, legislative updates
  • Develop, implement, and maintain compliance‑related policies, procedures, and codes of conduct; roll out new and updated policies and ensure internal awareness and understanding
  • Assist in developing and maintaining reliable systems to track policy implementation and compliance status
  • Develop and roll out comprehensive training programmes for all staff levels and departments, ensuring continuous awareness on key compliance themes
  • Facilitate internal and external compliance reviews and inspections
  • Serve as liaison between the company and regulatory authorities; support the Head of Legal in responding to regulatory queries and site inspections
  • Promote a culture of ethics and compliance throughout the business
  • Prepare compliance reports and meeting packs for committees
  • Support annual DRAB (Delegation of Responsibility and Authority Benchmark) reporting and procurement compliance oversight, including ABC training compliance monitoring
  • Assist the Head of Legal in fulfilling responsibilities of the Information / Privacy Officer role
  • Ensure availability and upkeep of the PAIA manual and compliance with POPIA awareness, systems, and reporting
  • Support execution of information access requests and internal data protection processes
  • Support the Head of Legal, Governance, Ethics & Compliance as required
