Job description and summary
This newly created role will report directly to the MD and will play a critical role in ensuring that our fast-growing business scales in a financially sustainable way. The Commercial Director will not only be responsible for oversight of the finance function but also for the commercial dealings of the business.
Key deliverables include
- Strategy development: Strategic leadership of the commercial strategy serving as a bridge between product, finance and sales with a hands‑on approach
- Partnering with the MD and leadership team to develop and execute commercial and go‑to‑market strategies
- Pricing: Overall pricing model with collaboration and buy‑in from the leadership team such that the commercial delivery of the business is optimised
- Finance: Leading financial strategy, planning, and analysis to drive business growth with a dotted reporting line to the Group Financial Director. Oversight of the financial results reporting to financial statements. Liquidity forecasting. Taxation and compliance requirements. Data usage models
- Modelling: Financial modelling and refinement of revenue and cost of sales models
- Revenue: Overall sales strategy and delivery of the sales team
- Client and partner relationships: Negotiating contracts with clients, customers and partners supporting the head of sales
Required competencies
- Strong strategic planning and analytical skills including financial modelling
- Proven track record in commercial and financial management
- Excellent leadership, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Strong ability to build and maintain client relationships
- Fluency with data, spreadsheets, and business platforms for performance monitoring
- Ability to adapt to market changes and drive growth
Qualifications and experience
- CA (SA) pref.
- Advanced Excel and financial modelling experience is a pre‑requisite
- At least 8 years post‑articles experience
- Commercial and financial experience are relevant to the role
- Strong commercial insight, preferably in one or more of Technology / Software as a Service / Telecoms / Fintech / Payments / Ad‑tech
