Job summary

A leading logistics company in Kempton Park is looking for a Controller to oversee financial performance. The ideal candidate will analyze P&L results, ensure accurate internal management accounts, and assist with budgeting and forecasting. They will be a trusted partner to operations and help guide management in financial decision-making. Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and have 3 years of relevant experience, ideally in the logistics sector.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a financial controlling/accounting role, preferably in the Logistics Industry.
  • Experience as a finance business partner and guiding non-financial managers.
  • Strong technical background with a sound understanding of financial statements and reports (IFRS).

Main Purpose of the Role

The Controller‘s mission is to analyze the P&L results (above EBITA) and to ensure the monthly internal management accounts for the business unit is accurate and reliable. The Controller will drive profitability and performance within the business unit and will be a trusted and reliable business partner to operations. They will support and guide management in operations with clear and objective comments on daily business matters. They will drive accurate forecasting and budgeting and will support with the preparation of board packs and business cases to aid the business in sound decision making.

Job Related Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a financial controlling / accounting role, preferably in the Logistics Industry.
  • Must have experience as a finance business partner and have a passion for guiding non-financial managers on financial matters.
  • Strong technical background with a sound understanding of financial statements and reports (including IFRS).
  • Logical person with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to complete deliverables on time and with a high level of accuracy without deviating from the requirement.

Added advantages for the Role
  • ACCA, CIMA or CA(SA) qualified or studying towards would be an advantage.
  • Previous experience in a Shared Services Environment would be an added advantage – finance functions.
  • Experience in Contract Logistics / Warehousing would be an added advantage.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepare and present the internal reporting (management accounts based on SAP ERP / SAP SAC) to business and provide detailed comments on the main events that occurred during the month (variance analysis).
  • Analyze the site results and propose different initiatives to improve the profitability.
  • Organise and guide the budget process with business. Prepare the P&L budget based on the SAP SAC tools.
  • Prepare rolling forecasts for business to review and approve and then report to Group or Regional Management.
  • Analyse and improve the different processes regarding the estimations of the work in progress (run off’s) and gross profit.
  • Review the reconciliation of the billing system to the financial system (SAP/Other).
  • Follow‑up the evolution of the EBIT and deliver a forecast for month end.
  • Prepare and present reports to business – sales reports, client profitability/returns etc.
  • Be the point of contact between the Shared Services centre and Operations.
  • Drive net working capital improvements with the business.
  • Ensure the SAP Controlling structure (cost centre) is validated by the business and afterwards transferred to the Region for updating in SAP
  • Analyse and report on staff costs (detailed review), FTE’s, etc.
  • Participate in the Local Management meetings representing the SSC
  • Ensure that the different Financial processes are respected locally not only by the Finance employees but also Operational persons
  • Assist with the Group and Local Statutory audits (IFRS) by providing local relevant information requested by the auditors
  • Prepare and present any special reporting required by business (Board presentations etc.)
  • Guide the business on important financial decisions and strategy (scenario modelling, simulations, business cases)
  • Perform regular Controller visits (internal audit) to the relevant entities and report back to business on issues and recommendations and ensure they are rectified where necessary
  • Drive profitability and performance within the business through P&L reviews, training and support
