About the Role

We are seeking an Accounting Officer with a strong foundation in accounting principles and practices, particularly within the renewable energy sector. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements for our renewable energy projects.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date financial records for renewable energy projects, including accounts payable processing and general ledger entries.
  • Prepare and process invoices, monitor payment statuses, and manage the full accounts payable cycle for project entities.
  • Conduct vendor verification, including banking detail confirmation and compliance checks.
  • Perform vendor reconciliations and resolve discrepancies timeously.
  • Prepare payment journals and compile payment batches for review and approval.
  • Engage directly with vendors to resolve queries and ensure smooth financial operations.
  • Process and reconcile company credit card transactions.
  • Process and reconcile travel cost accounts and company fleet expenses.
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations to ensure accurate cash‑flow reporting and financial integrity.
  • Assist in coordinating internal and external audits, preparing all required supporting documentation.
  • Maintain well‑organised financial records and ensure all documentation is readily accessible for reporting and audit purposes.
  • Communicate financial information, insights, and variances to project managers, senior leadership, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Stay current with regulations, financial standards, and compliance requirements within the renewable energy industry.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new staff on time‑and‑expense systems and procedures.
Required Skills and Educational Background
  • Diploma in Finance or basic bookkeeping qualification.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant accounting experience, with exposure to the renewable energy sector preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of South African VAT & Tax regulations related to renewable energy projects.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Act with high levels of integrity and accountability.

Additional Information

Able to work overtime according to operational needs.

The position is based at the offices of the company, but travel may be required occasionally.
