Overview

The CNegSAF Program is seeking a Research Engineer specializing in Technoeconomic and Environmental Analysis. Hosted by CNRS@CREATE with NUS as a co-lead, the project titled ‘Carbon Negative Production of Advanced Sustainable Aviation Fuels Using Twin Synthetic Bacterial Consortia’ (CNegSAF) is a collaborative international effort involving leading institutions in France and Singapore, including CNRS, Toulouse Biotechnology Institute (TBI), NUS, A*Star (SIFBI), and NTU. The program aims to demonstrate the feasibility of using synthetic bacterial consortia to convert green hydrogen and waste CO2 into sustainable aviation biofuels, contributing significantly to net-zero emissions targets and sustainable aviation fuel supply.

Responsibilities

The Research Engineer will primarily gather and develop data, including mass and energy balances, to create inventory tables supporting technoeconomic and environmental assessments of the process. The ideal candidate will have expertise in areas such as:

• Process engineering
• Heat integration
• Environmental analysis
• Chemical/biological process modeling
• Process optimization

The key questions to address include:

• How to incorporate new technologies at an industrial scale?
• How to define feasible scale using multicriteria decision making?
• What are the needs and limitations for implementing these technologies?

Qualifications

Required Education & Skills:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in chemical engineering, process engineering, or related fields
• Skills in Life Cycle Assessment, process flowsheet design, and technoeconomic analysis
• Excellent communication skills for delivering presentations
• Knowledge of fermentation processes
• Proficiency in Python programming (basic to intermediate)
• Experience with commercial process modeling software such as AspenPlus, ProSimPlus, or SuperProDesign

The position will be offered based on qualifications and experience. It is a fixed-term contract.
