This role is in Mexico City and operates within the second line of defense, providing essential support and oversight to Wise’s growing Mexican operations.
Responsibilities
- Daily monitoring of new regulations published by relevant authorities, specifically those applicable to Money Transmitters (Transmisores de Dinero) and IFPEs in Mexico.
- Proactive identification and communication of key regulatory changes to business and support areas, ensuring timely implementation.
- Support the preparation and coordination of responses to inquiries from regulators (e.g., CNBV, Banxico) and internal/external audit requests.
- Maintain and update key Compliance content repositories, including policies, procedures, and the Blocked Persons List on a daily basis, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Assist the Compliance team in conducting regulatory assessments, identifying potential gaps, and proposing practical solutions or action plans.
- Provide basic regulatory advice to business areas on product development and operational procedures, ensuring compliance with applicable frameworks.
- Identify and escalate inconsistencies that could lead to regulatory breaches or financial crime risks.
- Support the evaluation of new products and services from a regulatory and financial crime perspective.
- Track and monitor action plans to ensure timely compliance with regulatory requirements and deadlines.
- Collaborate with local Wise teams to address global compliance requirements, processes, and procedures.
- Assist Wise teams in the development of policies, procedures, and other compliance-related documentation.
Qualifications
- Foundational Knowledge. You have a basic understanding of financial regulations in Mexico, particularly those related to Money Transmitters (Transmisores de Dinero) and IFPEs. Prior exposure to anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CTF) regulations is a must.
- Action-Oriented. You are eager to learn and can help with operational tasks, including daily updates to the Blocked Persons List. You are interested in how compliance intersects with Wise’s mission.
- Enthusiasm. You are keen on improving processes and contributing to robust financial crime and regulatory compliance frameworks.
- Communication. You are a clear and effective communicator in both written and spoken Spanish and English.
- Diligence. You have a strong sense of responsibility, can manage basic tasks under pressure, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Attention to Detail. You are meticulous and organized, capable of managing multiple small tasks and ensuring the accuracy of daily routines and processes.
- Team Player. You have good interpersonal skills and can effectively collaborate and build relationships with colleagues across the business.
- Flexibility. You are willing to travel to other offices as required.
Desirable but Not Essential
- A bachelor\'s degree in a relevant field such as Law, Business Administration, Economics, or International Relations.
- Prior experience, even at an intern or entry-level, in a compliance, financial crime, or operational role within a financial institution or fintech company.
