The American Bus Association (ABA) is seeking a strategic Manager of Education & Certification to lead the, and growth of the association’s education and certification programs for the bus and group travel industry.

Reporting to the Vice President of Membership & Marketing, this role owns ABA’s education and certification framework across all member types and councils, ensuring learning is practical, cohesive, and aligned with real-world member needs. Education and certification are core to ABA’s member value, supporting safety, operational excellence, and professional development across the industry.

This is a member-facing, field-informed role. The Manager works closely with ABA councils—particularly Driving Force and the Bus Industry Safety Council—along with staff and external partners to translate industry expertise into structured, scalable education and certification pathways. The role requires both strategic vision and hands‑on engagement, including attending in‑person meetings and learning directly from operators, safety leaders, and maintenance professionals.

Key Responsibilities
Education & Certification Strategy
  • Develop and maintain ABA’s organization‑wide education and certification framework
  • Serve as the central point of accountability for education and certification governance
  • Coordinate certification development with councils, industry leaders, and subject‑matter experts
  • Establish certification requirements, assessments, renewal processes, and documentation standards
  • Act as a strategic advisor to councils, helping translate expertise into structured, scalable programs
  • Align council‑led education with ABA’s broader learning strategy and reduce duplication
In‑Person Education & Events
  • Partner with the Meetings & Events team to strengthen education at ABA meetings
  • Align Marketplace and other events with education and certification pathways
  • Support the design of educational tracks that connect in‑person learning to year‑round programs
  • Identify opportunities to extend successful in‑person education into scalable formats
Learning Platform & LMS Oversight
  • Lead ABA’s learning platform strategy, including oversight of external LMS partners
  • Ensure a high‑quality learner experience and effective delivery of education content
External Education Partnerships
  • Manage relationships with education and training partners, including regulators, trainers, manufacturers, and industry experts
  • Determine when to curate, license, or partner on content rather than build internally
Member Value & Revenue Alignment
  • Collaborate with Membership and Marketing to position education and certification as core member benefits
  • Support recruitment, retention, and engagement through education offerings
  • Help develop sustainable pricing models for certifications and premium education
  • Ensure accessibility for small and emerging members
Qualifications
  • Experience leading education strategy, certification programs, or professional development initiatives
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles
  • Proven ability to manage complex, multi‑stakeholder initiatives without direct authority
  • Experience working with volunteer leaders, councils, or advisory groups
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and facilitation skills
Preferred Experience
  • Association, nonprofit, or transportation experience
  • Oversight of certification or credentialing programs
  • Experience working with LMS vendors or external education partners
  • Background in industry education, workforce development, or standards‑based training
