Formación

  • 4–7 years of post-qualification experience in labor law.

Position Summary

This role is a Legal Counsel position based in Mexico, primarily focused on labor and employment advisory, while also providing general legal support across the region (including Colombia, Peru, Chile, Venezuela, and Argentina).

The Counsel will act as a strategic business partner to the company’s internal departments, offering legal advice and ensuring compliance with local and regional regulations. This includes providing guidance on labor relations, compliance investigations, corporate matters, and governance topics.

This role reports to the Legal Leader for Latin America, and collaborates closely with Human Resources, Finance, and regional business leaders within the BPO project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day legal advisory, with a primary focus on Mexican labor and employment law, including employee relations, terminations, disciplinary actions, and compliance with local labor authorities.
  • Support other legal areas as needed, including corporate, commercial, and compliance matters within Mexico and other Latin American jurisdictions (Colombia, Peru, Chile, Venezuela, Argentina).
  • Coordinate and manage local external counsel when required, ensuring quality and cost-effective legal services.
  • Oversee and report on regional legal cases, ensuring visibility to both local and global leadership.
  • Manage and support the ethics and whistleblowing channel for the region (excluding Brazil), conducting or coordinating investigations as needed.
  • Provide legal input and risk assessments on HR policies, employment contracts, and other legal documentation.
  • Deliver legal training sessions for business and HR teams on relevant legal and compliance topics (e.g., anti-corruption, harassment prevention, and ethical business conduct).
  • Support the management of corporate documentation and processes related to legal entities within the region, ensuring proper governance and compliance.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the regional leadership, offering practical, business-oriented legal solutions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (Licenciatura en Derecho).
  • Active registration with the Mexican Bar Association (mandatory).
  • 4–7 years of post-qualification experience, ideally in multinational companies or law firms with focus on labor and employment law.
  • Solid understanding of Mexican labor law, with additional exposure to corporate, compliance, and general commercial matters.
  • Experience providing legal advice to internal stakeholders and managing external counsel.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English (both written and spoken); Portuguese is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or postgraduate studies in Labor Law, Corporate Law, or Compliance.
  • Previous experience working across Latin American jurisdictions.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance legal risk with practical business judgment.
