The Country Director is responsible for overall management of programming and operational activities for the Project HOPE office in Mexico.

They serve as Project HOPE's official representative in Mexico, ensuring proper coordination with authorities by liaising with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, key stakeholders in the public and private sectors and non-governmental organizations.

The Country Director will plan, lead, organize and supervise the development, implementation and monitoring of global health programs in Mexico according to Project HOPE guidelines, agreements with funders and local partners, and following international best practices.

They will provide overall leadership for Project HOPE Mexico operations and programs to achieve programmatic outcomes, engage with key stakeholders to advance advocacy on priority global health issues, and lead development efforts to identify additional funding opportunities to expand Project HOPE's global health programs in Mexico.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Plan, lead and supervise the development, implementation, and monitoring of program activities in Mexico, based on approved workplans and within budget, in accordance with agreements with international and local partners.
  • Hire and supervise administrative and technical program staff and volunteers, building an effective and efficient team.
  • Oversee program implementation and maintenance in accordance with M&E Plans developed in coordination with the HQ-based M&E Director and funding partners, and develop reports to share outcomes, best practices and lessons learned.
  • Oversee daily operations, working with Project HOPE Mexico staff and implementing partners to ensure high quality and timely program deliverables are achieved.
  • Coordinate and represent Project HOPE at local, regional, and international meetings and conferences as appropriate.
  • Meet regularly with the technical support team, advisory committee members, communications team, the M&E Director and the Regional Director, as appropriate, to provide program updates in accordance with a workplan and timeline developed in conjunction with program partners.
  • Develop and submit reports to the Regional Director and program partners, including, but not limited to: monthly, quarterly, and annual reports outlining challenges, accomplishments, success stories, as well as financial, process, outcome and impact data tracking.
  • Report to the Regional Director regarding any significant changes in resource requirements and / or program objectives, and make recommendations for future actions.
  • Ensure that proper administrative support services are implemented through compliance with the Administrative Guidelines in all aspects of budgetary, financial, administrative, logistical and personnel activities.
  • Complete the following as needed:
  • Maintain communications with Project HOPE HQ on a regular basis, responding to inquiries and requests, and keeping Project HOPE HQ apprised of any issues of concern to program operations, as well as new program opportunities.
  • Arranging for local purchases of supplies and equipment after receiving appropriate approval; helping to project budgetary needs and adjustments.
  • Hiring and managing local support staff, ensuring that new positions are approved by the Regional Director; approving local salary adjustments and other personnel actions concerning support staff, as needed.
  • Keeping informed of local legal issues as they affect the operation of the HOPE Mexico program office, notifying the Regional Director of any special concerns that arise.
  • Conduct performance reviews of all local and expat staff and volunteers when applicable.
