Job description

This position will serve as an expert, advising internal and external partners on a range of sustainable financing mechanisms and strategies including but not limited to the design, structuring, and execution of corporate blue bonds and other capital markets transactions; commercial blue loan programs and products; and private market debt and equity vehicles and instruments that advance institutional and partner country climate, ocean conservation, and sustainable development goals and objectives in for Ocean Program. The Sustainable Finance Manager (Oceans) will lead the initiative, engagement, maintain and enhance the sustainability towards the best practices available in the corporate green and blue bond based on science.

The Manager must also have demonstrated knowledge or experience on the role and development of conservation finance and (blue) carbon finance transactions and must be able to work across a broad range of stakeholders including external partners in the private sector, development finance institutions, project developers, government, and civil society. Must have business and commercial acumen and be able to articulate an actionable plan for developing financing mechanisms for a few initiatives, including –but not limited to– outcomes-based financing mechanism for manta conservation funding; blue economy investment readiness grant windows; coral reef conservation debt-for-nature swap; coral reef insurance. This position will base in Jakarta office and report directly to the Ocean Program Director, with dotted reporting lines to the Sustainable Finance Sr. Director or Vice President Sustainable Finance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversight and/or implementation of project design, planning and scheduling, resource budgeting and management, design, evaluation, and monitoring of project performance objectives for priority ocean finance initiatives.
  • Lead the engagement and mobilisation of public and private sector financing including domestic and international philanthropic foundations, corporates, family offices, and bilateral and multilateral funding institutions.
  • Support KI members of the Oversight Committee and the Advisory Committee in overseeing the implementation of the coral reef conservation debt-for-nature swap program, including but not limited to advising on program investment policies as relevant.
  • Provide technical oversight on the development, implementation and evaluation of the Blue Halo S – Blue Economy Adaptation Mechanism project, particularly on the design, development, and implementation of grant and non-grant financing support to micro, small, and medium enterprises in priority blue economy sectors.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement and resource mobilization for developing a well-structured parametric insurance mechanism for coral reef protection in a pilot location in Indonesia.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
PEOPLE AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage a large or highly visible program.

  • Effectively manage, engage and motivate direct reports.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree in sustainable finance, marine conservation, biodiversity conservation, and natural resource management-related science.
  • Minimum 7 years of full-time work experience in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and professional experience with climate and nature financing approaches and mechanisms including carbon crediting transactions (origination, voluntary carbon market standards, and implementation), results-based financing instruments, and other relevant financing tools, models, and approaches
  • Experience in economic valuation for terrestrial and marine ecosystems
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with relevant policy tools and mechanisms for financing nature conservation in Indonesia (e.g. environmental trust funds, payment for ecosystem services schemes, ecological fiscal transfer schemes, BLUD (regional public service agency) establishment and sustainability.
  • Experience managing complex projects. Excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent in reporting, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Oral and written language proficiency in both Bahasa Indonesia and English (C1/C2)
  • Highly organized and strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated team player.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to build on existing knowledge to develop new approaches.
  • Demonstrated track record of working effectively and collaboratively with multicultural, international, multidisciplinary teams to produce concrete results, including a strong capacity to navigate diversity, equity, and inclusion.
