Government Relations/External Affairs Expert

As one of the world’s largest pulp and paper companies, Asia Pulp and Paper Group (APP) seeks a senior professional to lead external affairs and government relations in the region.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor movement on top policy priorities at state and local levels.
  • Represent the company at coalition meetings, partner meetings, and briefings.
  • Develop and manage relationships with key state and local legislators and agency staff.
  • Act as spokesperson and develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders and media members.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government officials, regulatory bodies, and relevant industry associations.
  • Serve as liaison between the organization and governmental bodies, focusing on lobbying efforts to influence policy decisions.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies to inform and engage the public about the company’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Align corporate messaging with public interests and regulatory guidelines, enhancing the company’s public image while informing stakeholders about safety and corporate social responsibility efforts.
  • Monitor public opinion and media coverage, advising senior management on potential impacts of decisions.
  • Ensure that there are no security disturbances resulting in operational disruptions.
  • Risk mapping, risk management, conflict resolution, and stakeholder register maintenance.
Job Requirements
  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Public Relations, Public Administration, Political Science or relevant studies.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience in communication, media relations, or public relations.
  • Ability to work and collaborate in a team environment, including with remote team members.
  • Strong judgment/decision-making skills and political acumen.
  • Strategic thinking, resilience, and ability to thrive in chaotic situations.
  • Strong skills in writing, speaking, research, analysis, creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork.
  • English speaker; Mandarin is a plus and preferred.
  • Based in Karawang, West Java.
