Eden Veterinary Centre is our small animal practice located in Carlisle & Border Vets is our mixed practice located in Longtown (10 minutes up the road), based on the outskirts of the beautiful Lake District – just 30 minutes from the fells and waters of this stunning National Park, Hadrian's wall and borderlands, there is ample opportunity to enjoy our beautiful surroundings.
Carlisle is located next to the M6 and has great routes into Scotland via the A74 (M) and the A7, whilst Newcastle and the Northeast are easily reached via the A69. There are excellent rail links to London (3hrs 10mins) and Glasgow (60mins).
The team at Eden & Border Vets have an inclusive, fun and supportive attitude. Our philosophy is to treat clients' pets as if they are our own, ensuring our patients are as relaxed and comfortable as possible, making every vet visit a pleasant experience for both owner and animal. We are a forward‑thinking practice, keen to include all staff members in clinical discussions and development of processes.
Across both Eden & Border, we have a strong team of 9 vets, supported by 8 registered veterinary nurses, 1 student veterinary nurse, 1 animal care assistant, Director of Practice and highly skilled receptionists. CPD and professional development are encouraged in all disciplines; we are also a nurse training practice.
We have a new small animal hospital premises as of first quarter 2026. This premises benefits from 2 purpose‑designed operating theatres, to allow graduates to develop skills and be involved in advanced procedures such as laparoscopy and an orthopaedic caseload, a large prep room area, dental room with dental x‑ray, direct radiography with Signal‑PET AI to assist with interpretation and ultrasound in the imaging room, a well‑equipped lab with Idexx machines and an imagyst microscope to support our high cytology caseload. We have a nurse on site 24 hours and we love the spacious cat and dog wards to support the welfare of our patients.
Our mixed practice facilities include an ovary test and mastatest, full Idexx laboratory for small and large animal use, large and small animal ultrasound scanners & bull semen kit.
This role is ideal for an enthusiastic individual who is looking to be part of a caring, fun and dedicated team, with the drive to give excellent client experience and high‑quality care to our patients. The role consists of a 40‑hour week. Enjoy a balanced schedule: start with a 5‑day week, moving to a 4‑day week when you take part in our OOH rota. Out‑of‑hours duties include a manageable 1‑in‑4 weekend shift and one weeknight on‑call.
We have 2 Vet GDP advisors across both practices with experience of supporting new graduates and having both completed the RVC CPD in mentoring, an experienced nursing team to create a safe and supportive environment, nurturing induction process to be taken at the pace of the individual. Initially shadowing & getting to know the team, progressing to supported surgeries, consults and farm visits.
Caseload split for this role is 50% Small Animal, 40% Farm, 10% Equine.
