Overhaul Technician

Contract Duration: 12 months

Location: North London

Shift pattern: Days, Lates, and Nights (Swing Shift, Rotating)

Pay Rates:

Umbrella Pay Rate: £31.05 per hour (Standard + 130% Shift), plus an additional monthly bonus of £333.33 for London Weighting Allowance.

PAYE Pay Rate: £22.30 (Standard + 130% Shift), plus an additional monthly bonus of £333.33 for London Weighting Allowance.

Role Overview:
You will undertake overhaul & modification duties on a Rolling Stock (Rail) Project, working on various bogie fleets while adhering to processes & procedures:
* Carry out initial inspection of wheelsets
* Remove axle bearings carefully, avoiding damage, and prepare bearings for dispatch
* Remove paint from axles
* Remove wheel pans with precautions to prevent damage
* Perform painting activities (repairs and spray painting)
* Remove surface defects
* Drain and fill oil on wheelset gearbox, couplings, and related parts
* Conduct initial bogie inspections and report findings
* Remove wheelsets carefully to avoid damage
* Disassemble frames and remove components
* Repair components as required
* Assist with cleaning rolling stock when needed

Description:

• Undertake overhaul, modifications, and repairs of wheelsets/bogies with minimal supervision, following procedures.
• Assist team members in overhaul activities to develop skills.
• Identify, order, and collect spares and materials from stores.
• Assist with cleaning rolling stock as necessary.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Perform mechanical repairs as part of the Engineering team.
• Support repair, modification, and overhaul tasks within a well-equipped depot.

Knowledge & Experience:

• Experience in mechanical/electrical engineering or process environment.
• Basic fault-finding skills.
• Accurate record-keeping of actions and operations.
• Care for tools, equipment, and PPE.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety, including bio hazards, manual handling, and COSHH.
• Proficiency in computer use.
• Ability to interpret technical publications.
• Ability to produce detailed technical reports.

All PPE provided, and Health and Safety instructions will be given on-site.
