In a nutshell
UK Technologists manage the product development and delivery of Sainsbury’s Argos General Merchandise & Clothing product plans, ensuring quality, safety, and legality. They collaborate with Asia Technical peers, Sourcing teams, Suppliers, Designers, Buyers, Merchandisers, supply chain/DC, and retail teams to produce high-quality products that meet standards, policies, and customer expectations, while also addressing cost challenges. They review customer returns, star ratings, and complaints to incorporate learnings into future product specifications, reducing returns and enhancing customer experience.
Lead Technologists lead small teams of Technologists and/or Assistant Technologists, handling line management responsibilities. Both roles emphasize customer focus and internal KPIs, leadership fundamentals, and company values.
What I am accountable for
- Delivering innovative products through evaluation, benchmarking, feedback, reviews, and post-sales data analysis.
- Managing risk assessments for safety, legality, and quality to uphold brand reputation and ensure due diligence.
- Coordinating technical approvals and timelines with suppliers and stakeholders, including specifications and artwork approvals.
- Supporting category technical & sourcing strategies by collaborating with Buying, Sourcing, Sustainability, and Design teams.
- Resolving issues promptly and managing held stock, maintaining relevant trackers and incident reports.
- Achieving department KPIs and goals.
- Providing technical training to ensure standards are understood and followed.
- Maintaining technical records in line with company procedures and legal requirements.
- Supporting sustainability initiatives.
- Investigating issues and reducing returns by analyzing customer feedback and data for continuous improvement.
- Embracing change and supporting new working methods, exemplifying company values.
Additionally, for Lead Technologists:
- Providing leadership, direction, and development to the team.
- Mentoring and motivating through training, coaching, and performance reviews.
What I need to know
Essential
- Experience in manufacturing or retail technical environments.
- Experience with Sports/Leisure equipment and Electrical products is advantageous.
- Commercial awareness.
- Technical experience in supply base or retail.
- Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas.
