At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to landmark projects, and connect with the brightest minds in your field to do the best work of your life. You can embrace curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives, with opportunities to shape a career as unique as you.

We are looking for graduates for our Energy Transition team who have a flexible approach and an appetite to learn in a leading Engineering and Professional Advisory services consultancy. You will enjoy working in a collaborative environment on a diverse range of clients and projects.

Graduates and Locations
  • Low Carbon - Engineering: Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Birmingham
  • Renewable Power - Onshore Renewables: Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, London and Birmingham
Role and Team

Working as a Graduate in Energy Transition means contributing to exciting and innovative projects across the UK and overseas in specialist services including Low Carbon and Renewable Energy. The Energy Transition team delivers multi-disciplinary services to help clients work toward a net zero future, supporting power generating assets from conventional generation to renewable sources such as wind and solar.

Responsibilities include feasibility studies, technical and financial advice, environmental issues, engineering design, process modelling, and construction management. We also provide long-term operational management support services.

Projects

Our teams work on significant assignments, and you will help deliver projects such as:

  • Green Hydrogen generation plant design (e.g., PEM-based hydrogen production)
  • New CCGT plants being designed and installed globally
  • Upgrades and modifications to existing gas networks
  • Pipeline routing studies for large distribution networks
  • Design of onshore wind turbine foundations
  • Design of structures on an innovative energy generation project in the USA
  • Inspection work on existing electrical substations in the UK
  • Design and review of new solar PV and battery storage projects in the UK and overseas
Our Energy Transition Teams

Renewable Power Generation

WSP’s Renewable Energy Team specialises in key technologies and is supported by in-house multi-disciplinary engineers. Our teams add value at every project phase, with deep consultancy knowledge across the project life cycle. We work with major renewable technologies and specialise in:

  • Offshore Wind (Generation and transmission)
  • Onshore Wind
  • Onshore Solar
  • Battery Storage

Day-to-day activities could include:

  • Projects including design, delivery, client engagement, and stakeholder management
  • Winning work by contributing to proposals and understanding business development and commercial considerations
  • Other initiatives driven by the service lines that influence growth

You will join an enthusiastic and supportive team, collaborating with colleagues and adapting to dynamic project environments while engaging with internal and external stakeholders.

Graduate Development Programme

Our two-year Graduate Development programme is designed to support personal and professional development through an engaging blended learning experience, including core business and professional skills training, career development workshops, networking, mentoring for professional registration, and on-the-job experience. We aim to support your path to chartered status with professional bodies.

To learn more, please refer to the Graduate brochure or Graduate website for details. You will receive support to progress through enrolment in a professional institution’s training agreement.

What We will look for

You should have graduated with at least a 2:2 in a master’s degree in a relevant subject. You will be able to start work in April or September 2026, have a passion for consulting, an interest in structural engineering and design, and a drive to solve problems. You should be willing to share new ideas and collaborate with stakeholders in a dynamic project environment. If you do not meet every criterion, apply anyway and we will assess how your experience aligns with this role and other opportunities in our Graduate programme.

Application & Selection

We assess applications on a rolling basis and progress some candidates to final stages before the closing date. To ensure full consideration, apply as early as possible. Details on timelines are available in our Early Careers brochure and application & selection materials.
