Job summary

As an experienced Paediatric Nurse, you will manage a small team to develop and maintain education & training to the Paediatric Nursing team

You will liaise with relevant staff within Paediatrics to analyse the training needs & deliver excellent patient care through having the right staff trained in the right skill at the right time, and working collaboratively across boundaries, for the benefit of children & young people's care & staff development, sharing expertise & best practice.

You will deliver & influence education, training & development of the clinical & non-clinical workforce to provide progressive development opportunities in relation to competence & skills attainment across the paediatric team.

You will assist in the review & updating of competency training & assessment packs ensuring completion of specific measurable objectives. Engaging with all of the multi-professional learners across education, including development of education packages for new & emerging roles e.g. Nursing Associates, Physicians Associates.

You will lead implementing quality measures across the educational pathway & assist in the delivery of a structured, competency based induction & training programme for new staff to the clinical areas ensuring a system of preceptorship & mentorship is fully utilised.

Main duties of the job

The Lead Clinical Educator will develop, plan, organise and co-ordinate training for the Childrens Directorate.

Manage the delivery of effective education and development programmes

The post holder will support multi-professional practice and learning across the organisation

Contribute and propose changes where appropriate to the development of a skilled professional workforce and facilitate a range of education, training and learning opportunities in the clinical environments.

Provide assessments of individual learning and development needs in conjunction with the National Skills Framework

Provide educational support to staff in practice where the need has been identified, assessing their competency by utilising action plans and a structured approach

Identify any skills gaps and provide training sessions to meet the needs of individual staff and give appropriate feedback on progress/difficulties of staff to the line managers

Maintain accurate and up to date records of learning events both formal and informal and provide relevant reports to the Directorate Management Team monthly.

Work with the matron and senior sisters/ charge nurse in the development, maintenance and monitoring of a comprehensive Training Needs Analysis (TNA) for all nursing team staff.
