A leading NHS trust is offering a unique one-year fellowship in day case anaesthetics, starting in February 2026. Candidates must hold the primary FRCA and have a minimum of 4 years anaesthetic experience. The role includes participating in clinical duties, mentorship, and developing leadership skills within a collaborative team. Supervisors will facilitate ongoing education, aiming to enhance clinical competencies and management abilities. This is an excellent opportunity for those looking to progress in anaesthetic practices.
This is an opportunity to do one of the first Day case anaesthetic fellowships focused on BADS criteria for day case surgery, offered nationally. The Fellowship is aimed at trainees or Doctors who wish to excel in Day case work and are in possession of the primary FRCA (or equivalent) with minimum anesthetic experience of 4 years or even senior trainees, CCT holders seeking further experience in Day case role, leadership and management skills within the NHS would be eligible to apply.
The post is for 12 months commencing in Feb 2026. Candidates must have previous experience of working as an anaesthetist in UK in addition to hold full GMC registration.
The exact timetable will be tailored to comply with the Fellows specific interests. The proportion of clinical daytime work will be finalised based on the skill mix and upon needs of the service upon appointment. The Fellow will take part in the junior on call rota, providing on call for the intensive care unit, theatres or obstetrics as required by the department.
Post Graduate Doctors in Training are also eligible to apply. Trainees should be on course for a standard ARCP outcome and discuss an Out Of Programme (OOP) pause with their TPD. An OOP (P) would allow competencies achieved to be evaluated at ARCP on return to programme using a gap analysis tool and potentially counted towards training. Applicants in ST6 or ST7 may also count time towards training under the Leadership and Management Special Interest Area (SIA) (details from the RCoA awaited).
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
And we will embed health equality in all we do – taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
