Job description

The post provides an exciting and unique opportunity to work within urogynaecology/female urology and learn specialist skills in managing patients with chronic and recurrent urinary tract infections (UTI). The LUTS service is a tertiary clinical service and research centre that manages patients with chronic LUTS and is closely associated with translational research.

The Urogynaecology and LUTS subspecialties fall under the Women's Health Department within the Acute Patient Access, Clinical Support Services, and Women's Health Division (ACW).

We are expanding our department and integrating Urogynaecology and LUTS where appropriate. Our division is supported by the Clinical Director, Director of Operations and Gynaecology Lead Consultant. Post holders will be supported by the LUTS and Gynaecology administrative teams.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will see patients with chronic lower urinary tract symptoms and continence related problems. The job will consist of specialist LUTS clinics, urogynaecology clinics, urogynaecology operating and urodynamics. If the post holder wishes there are opportunities to be involved with translational research within this tertiary service.

Job responsibilities
  • Assist Ms Rajvinder Khasriya, Ms Kiren Gill and Mr Dhanuson Dharmasena in seeing the patients in the Whittington hospital.
    • Make decisions on management, identify complications and arrange for appropriate responses to be organised.
    • Carry out urine microscopy and arrange for appropriate responses to be organised.
    • Help with urogynaecology clinics and urodynamics.
    • The post holder will have the opportunity to assist Ms Khasriya, Ms Gill and Mr Dhanuson Dharmasena in the Urogynaecology theatre list.
  • This is a clinical academic unit, and as such the post holder will be expected to assist with clinical research studies in Urogynaecology and Chronic UTI taking place in the unit. This will include:
    • Working as a sub-investigator on Urogynaecology and Medical Urology research studies as necessary.
    • Working within guidelines of Good Clinical Practice and Research Governance.
    • There will be scope to undertake a PhD research project.
  • Attend conferences relevant to your area of work.
  • Give presentations of research / clinical work at departmental meetings and Womens Health audit meetings.
  • Attend and present at monthly MDT meetings.

There are no on-call commitments associated with this post, though these can be accommodated depending on the appointed candidate.
