Job description

Applications are invited for a highly motivated Clinical Fellow in Brain Injury Rehabilitation based at the Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre, situated in the grounds of Frenchay Hospital on the outskirts of the cosmopolitan city of Bristol.

Position Overview

This is a full time appointment for 30 hours per week, with occasional flexibility and no on‑call commitment.

The Centre is a highly reputable, busy 52‑bed unit offering brain injury rehabilitation for adolescent and adult patients, including patients with complex acquired neurological injuries that may require tracheostomy or challenging behaviours.

The Clinical Fellow is encouraged to play an active role in all aspects of assessment and management of patients. The particular role is to provide continuity of medical care, day‑to‑day management of the in‑patient service, report preparation and close liaison with the Centre’s friendly inter‑disciplinary team. The post holder will have close working relationships with the acute neurosciences services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Look after the general medical needs of Level 1 & 2 patients during rehabilitation from acquired brain injury, providing on site cover from 9 am to 5 pm.
  • Clerk the new patients, acquiring relevant collateral information from the referring ward/hospital and, where necessary, from relatives/family.
  • Work with Dr Graham, Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, and Consultants in Neuropsychiatry and Neuropsychology.
  • Take the lead in the general medical management of patients, while encouraging collaboration with nursing and therapy staff and other clinicians.
  • Prepare reports, comprehensive discharge summaries and documentation of issues concerning the patients.
Qualifications
  • Full registration with the GMC.
  • Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent) is essential.
