About The Project

Applications are invited for a Research Technician to join the group of Dr Richard Meek to study the role of carbohydrates in brain calcification. This project, funded by the Academy of Medical Sciences, will utilize immunofluorescence, mass spectrometry, cell-based assays, and biophysical approaches with recombinant proteins to explore how dysfunctional carbohydrate-processing causes disease. Previous experience in these techniques is desirable. The position offers significant potential to understand the molecular basis of brain signaling and neurological disorders.

This project is based in the School of Biological Sciences, which boasts extensive expertise in neuroscience and glycobiology. You will be part of a vibrant glycobiology hub at Southampton, using cutting-edge techniques to understand disease mechanisms, and will have opportunities to learn and apply these techniques.

About The Role

Experience in purifying proteins using FPLCs and cell culture is essential. You will be required to maintain and utilize both human and insect cell lines for protein production and biochemical assays. Strong organizational skills are necessary, including maintaining detailed laboratory and electronic notes.

The post is available for 18 months and is offered on a full-time basis.

About You

You should have laboratory experience in glycobiology, biochemistry, or a related field and be capable of working independently. Excellent written and verbal English skills are required.
