An exciting opportunity to join one of our elective surgical wards as a band 6 charge nurse has arisen, we are looking for passionate, enthusiastic, dedicated experienced nurses to join our team to support leading the department to excellence.

This is a great opportunity for someone ready to take on their first charge nurse role or for an experienced nurse seeking a change. You'll join a diverse, improvement-driven team and receive strong support to develop your skills in surgical care, leadership, and management. Working in a fast-paced environment, you'll be fully supported by the multidisciplinary team.

This role will give you a great opportunity to develop and learn how to manage a consolidated nursing team, supporting the ward manager in the management of rosters, sickness, training and clinical auditing.

The unit is currently introducing an Enhanced Perioperative Care (EPOC) Model, designed to deliver holistic, high-quality care to surgical patients who are at increased risk of adverse outcomes. This is a rapidly evolving service, and successful candidates will play a vital role in shaping its development, helping it become an outstanding and integral part of the surgical perioperative pathway.

You will support the care and development of junior staff and student nurses, fostering a positive learning environment while planning, delivering, and maintaining high-quality nursing care for patients and their families.

To provide effective clinical and holistic individualised family centred care to the patients and families, ensuring delivery is to the highest standard. Maintaining evidenced based practice is performed at all times, being responsible for updating own knowledge and skills in line with the Trust polices, multidisciplinary team and the NMC Code. Developing leadership skills, actively participating in service development. To take charge and run the ward on a shift by shift basis, supporting the ward manager to deliver a well lead unit, act as an advocate for both staff and patients to ensure safe care to our patients.

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) provides a full range of general acute, outpatient and diagnostic services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop's Stortford, and St Margaret's Hospital in Epping.

We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop's Stortford and Epping. Our extended catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000 and includes the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.

• Must hold a current NMC registration
• Assessment and discharge skills
• Excellent communication skills , verbal and non verbal
• Leadership/mentorship and teaching skills
• Previous experience of audits , investigations and governance
• Previous experience of running a shift and insight in resolving problems.
• Previous surgical nursing experience
• Previous acute care nursing experience
