Job summary

A major mental health trust is seeking a psychiatrist to provide a community-based psychiatric service for older people. The role involves clinical leadership, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, and the responsibility for care aspects in the community sector. Successful candidates will have significant experience in mental health services and be ideally positioned to contribute to patient care in York and North Yorkshire.

Job description

The post holder will be responsible for providing a community-based psychiatric service to older people in the West side of the South-West Community Hub, working in and providing clinical leadership to the West older people's team (6 DCC PAs) and an additional 1.5 DCC PAs to All York and Selby Memory Team.

To work with fellow consultants, clinical colleagues, and service managers to provide an assessment and treatment service for older people with mental health problems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Working to provide clinical leadership to the West older people's team and overall responsibility for the medical aspects of care of patients in that sector (6 DCC PA). They also provide an additional 1.5 DCC PAs to All York and Selby Memory Team.
  • To work jointly with colleagues from other disciplines and all relevant agencies to provide a comprehensive approach to patient care and treatment. TEWV supports New Ways of Working in Mental Health and the successful applicant will have a remit to contribute to multidisciplinary working in this context.
  • To hold Responsible Clinician (RC) status as defined within the Mental Health Act &/or to support a non-medical RC as Approved Clinician (AC) for inpatients when on duty on the out-of-hours on-call rota and maintain section 12(2) approval.
  • To assist colleagues in the Older People's service in planning, implementing, and monitoring older people's mental health services provided by TEWV.
