You will be joining the learning disability nursing workforce at an exciting time of progress and development. Within NHS GGC, learning disability nurses work in inpatient or community services.

The role of a Learning Disability Nurse is to support individuals and their families to ensure health needs are met and individuals can reach their potential and live meaningful lives.

As a Learning Disability Nurse, you will work across the lifespan. Our population has diverse health needs from early diagnosis to end-of-life care. You will play a vital role as part of a multi-disciplinary team within a healthcare setting, contributing to:

1. Assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating holistic, person-centred care.
2. Reducing health inequalities for people with learning disabilities.
3. Reducing barriers to health and care services to promote wellbeing.
4. Supporting people with learning disabilities to live fulfilling lives.

Learning Disability Nurses may also be considered for roles in Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services, Prison Healthcare (Addictions Team), Forensic Mental Health Services, and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. If interested, apply to job reference 209850 (NRN Mental Health).

Supporting Your Career

During your first year, you will undertake the newly registered nurse programme, which supports your transition from student to registered nurse. This includes induction, preceptorship, clinical supervision, and Scotland’s Flying Start programme for new nurses, midwives, and allied health professionals.

As a Band 5 Nurse, you will work alongside experienced colleagues and receive guidance from peers, senior nurses, and lead nurses.

Our Clinical Nurse Education Team is dedicated to supporting your development in knowledge, skills, and career progression.
