The project: Hinkley Point C (HPC) is a significant nuclear power station project located in Somerset, England. It is the first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years and represents a major step towards achieving the country's energy security and carbon reduction goals.

The plans involve major construction work, management services, and NEC contract management. Hinkley Point C nuclear plant is set to produce energy that will service a phenomenal 5 million homes when it becomes fully operational. This equates to an overall 7% of UK total energy requirement, placing it in high national interest.

• Two EPR Reactors: HPC will consist of two European Pressurised Reactors (EPRs), each with a capacity of 1,600 megawatts (MW), providing a total output of 3,200 MW. This will be enough to supply electricity to around six million homes[1].
• Zero‑Carbon Electricity: The project is designed to produce zero‑carbon electricity, significantly contributing to the UK's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change.
• Economic Impact: HPC is expected to create thousands of jobs and provide substantial economic benefits to the local and national economy. It has already generated numerous employment and apprenticeship opportunities[1].
• Construction Milestones: The project has achieved several key milestones, including the installation of the first reactor dome and the delivery of major components like steam generators.

• Construction Timeline: The construction of HPC began in 2018, with the first reactor expected to be operational by the end of the decade. The project has faced some delays, with the latest estimates suggesting that the first unit will be operational by.
• Cost Estimates: The total cost of the project is estimated to be between £31 billion and £34 billion, reflecting the complexity and scale of the construction[2].

Please note: This role will require working from Bridgwater, HPC site and Aztec west with flexibility of working from home, minimum 2 days a week in the office.

• Dealing with a high number of compensation events under NEC3 Option A & C, assessing entitlement, cost validation and internal governance.
• Providing commercial and contractual subject matter expertise to the balance of plant delivery team.
• Providing support to commercial managers on areas of key contractual risk, and governance procedures.
  You’ll need to have:
  • Effective commercial and contract management skills, with clear knowledge of best practice contract methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of contract performance measurement, risk management and change and claim management.
  • Highly developed commercial skills and demonstrable ability to make sound decisions on matters of significant financial value.
  • Confident on management of NEC contracts, with experience in FIDIC within the power construction industry and major projects; coupled with knowledge of UK Law and its impact upon the contract and commercial function.
  • Prior experience on NEC contracts on larger construction projects desirable.
  • Familiarity with the nuclear site license conditions and the nuclear baseline philosophy with understanding of the UK regulatory framework would be beneficial.
