We are developing a new Band 6 role for a passionate Learning Disability Nurse to support children and young people with moderate to severe learning disabilities, complex mental health needs and significant behaviours of concern.

The role is part of a small, dedicated team with access to a strong peer support network across SWYPFT. We value flexibility, a healthy work‑life balance and a culture that encourages innovation and growth.

• Work through a consultation and systems based approach
• Hold a varied caseload of adults with learning disabilities
• Carry out specialist assessments and deliver therapeutic interventions
• Advocate for children and young people with learning disabilities
• Contribute to service development and staff learning
• Support crisis management and timely discharge of patients
• Engage in safeguarding investigations and EPPI‑style risk assessment where appropriate
• Collaborate with housing, education, social care and community teams to produce care plans

• RNLD or equivalent learning disability nursing qualification
• Evidence of additional academic study at Diploma / Degree level
• Teaching qualification (or willingness to undertake teaching activities)
• Current registration at the Nursing and Midwifery Council (or willingness to obtain registration)

• Professional knowledge relevant to practice acquired by degree, diploma, specialist training and short courses
• Further training in areas relevant to practice (e.g., autism, challenging behaviour, long term conditions)
• Substantial post‑qualifying experience in care of people with a learning disability
• Experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team and managing care

• Specialist knowledge across a range of areas relevant to practice underpinned by theory
• Current philosophy underpinning learning disability community care provision
• Planning and organising skills; health‑promoting facilitation; teaching practice
• Knowledge and understanding of cultural and diversity issues; mental health; complex health needs

• Self‑motivated and good communication/interpersonal skills
• Ability to work under pressure; current driving licence (access to a car essential)
• Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion; ability to work with vulnerable populations
