Technician (Assistive Technologies) Band 4

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technician (Assistive Technologies) Band 4 to join our Rehabilitation services team at The Childrens Trust School. This role is to play a key role in delivering high-quality, evidence-based support across multidisciplinary teams within the areas of assistive technology and neuro technology.

Main duties of the job

The role of Technician (Assistive Technologies) is to play a key role in delivering high-quality, evidence-based support across multidisciplinary teams within the areas of assistive technology and neuro technology. The focus of this role is to support the delivery of outcome-focused interventions that promote safe care, functional independence, and active participation for children and young people through the use of assistive technology (for example AAC, switches, powered mobility and environmental controls) and neuro-technologies (e.g. robotics, anti-gravity, virtual reality, wearable technology).

You will primarily provide technical support to therapy teams, education staff, and other professionals involved in supporting children, young people, and their families. This involves the procurement, integration, asset management, and maintenance of assistive and neuro technologies to ensure effective and coordinated care. The role will also support therapists with assessments and interventions, with you working collaboratively with health, therapy, and education professionals.

The Childrens Trust is the UK’s leading charity for children with acquired brain injury, providing expert rehabilitation, education, therapy, and care at our national specialist centre in Tadworth, and to children and their families across the UK, via our Brain Injury Community Service.

Job responsibilities
Assistiveand Rehabilitation Technology Skills and Responsibilities

Support child-facing staff in the implementation of assistive and neuro technology into existing routines to improve participation.

Support the assistive and neuro technology teams with the technical procedures required to bring devices safely into the hands of the children who need it. This includes the sourcing, preparation, set up and maintenance of devices, and logging these actions on a digital record.

Work as part of the AT team on our planned preventative maintenance schedule to ensure equipment is working and safe to use.

Work with child-facing staff to make and amend vocabularies, configure apps, create activities, and innovate in the AT space to ensure all children have opportunities to participate fully through the latest technology.

Provide training to the child-facing staff on fundamental assistive and rehabilitation technology skills and knowledge, while advancing your own skills.

Support and troubleshoot queries from educational, health and therapy staff.

Support work with device developers in neuro-technology to support demonstrations and trials in practice of new technology.

Clinical Skills and Responsibilities

Support the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based interventions for children and young people attending The Childrens Trust School and Rehabilitation Services, under the supervision of qualified therapists.

Maintain accurate and appropriate records of interventions, in line with legal, professional, and organisational requirements.

Operate as an autonomous technician, responsible for the maintenance of assistive and rehabilitation equipment across the site.

Monitor equipment and stock levels for therapy departments, identifying items for replenishment; process equipment orders as required.

Work with the multidisciplinary team to document and minimise risk of harm encountered when children and young people use assistive and rehabilitation technology.

Support the management and oversight of specialist equipment across therapy teams.

Work flexibly across different areas of the site, including the School, New Cheyne Centre, and Children & Family Services.

Actively participate in team and service meetings.

Support data collection for audits, service evaluation and outcome data related to usage and effectiveness of assistive and neuro technology.

Uphold the organisation’s values and promises in all aspects of your work.

Demonstrate a working knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks, including CQC, Ofsted Care and Education, Children's Home Regulations, and Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).

Undertake other duties within your skills and abilities, as reasonably required by the organisation.

Engage in monthly supervision and annual Performance Development Reviews (PDRs) inline with The Childrens Trust requirements.

Prepare for PDRs by identifying learning objectives, setting targets, and seeking development opportunities to meet Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements.

Take part in in-service competency training and teaching sessions as appropriate.

Support the induction of new staff, students, and multidisciplinary team members.

Complete all mandatory training in accordance with The Childrens Trust policies.
