Overview

Venue Director – Civic Hub (Interim)

Day rate: c. £650 per day (Umbrella)

Duration: 12 weeks (strong possibility of extension)

Location: Hybrid

Interviews: ASAP with a view to a start thereafter

We are seeking an experienced operational leader to oversee the Civic Hub, a high-value, flagship project for a London borough. This multi-use venue combines civic, commercial, and cultural functions. You will be responsible for ensuring the Hub opens successfully, runs smoothly from Day 1, and delivers first-class service to all users.

This is a hands-on, facilities-focused role. You will oversee building operations, maintenance, security, health and safety, accessibility, and facilities management, while coordinating staff, tenants, and contractors to deliver seamless operations across all activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all facilities and operational management, including maintenance, technical services, cleaning, security, and compliance.
  • Ensure the venue is fully operational and safe for all users, with robust systems for day-to-day operations, emergencies, and contingency planning.
  • Build and manage high-performing teams, ensuring all staff are capable of delivering first-class service to internal and external customers.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor operational and staffing budgets, transferring ownership to the operational team in line with financial regulations and standing orders.
  • Support the delivery of events, conferences, weddings, and cultural programming, ensuring technical and facilities requirements are met.
  • Promote equalities and inclusion, including a commitment for the Hub to be “ruthlessly accessible.” Work closely with the Disabled Resident Team (DRT) to review and improve accessibility.
  • Collaborate with council teams, tenants, commercial operators, and stakeholders to ensure alignment and smooth operations.
  • Monitor performance, establish KPIs, and maintain operational standards across all facilities and services.
Experience and Skills
  • Essential: Demonstrable experience managing multi-purpose, high-value projects with complex facilities and operational requirements.
  • Extensive facilities management experience in multi-use venues, civic, or commercial buildings.
  • Proven track record in compliance, health and safety, accessibility, and operational management.
  • Experienced in budgeting, team leadership, and contractor management.
  • Confident, resilient, and adaptable, able to lead in a fast-paced, high-profile environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management, working effectively with political, commercial, and community partners.
  • Degree-level or equivalent experience, with professional development in facilities or operations management.
