Support Assistant - Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), Stockport Make a real impact supporting young people with social, emotional, and behavioural needs

Are you calm, resilient, and passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning?

We are working with a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Stockport to recruit a Support Assistant to work with students who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. The role involves providing tailored academic and emotional support to young people with challenging behaviour, social-emotional needs, and often complex backgrounds.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine difference in a setting where every day is different and every interaction matters.

The Role
  • Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Helping young people re-engage with learning in a safe, supportive environment
  • Managing behaviour in a positive and consistent way
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced trauma or instability
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external agencies
We\'re Looking For
  • Experience working with young people with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, or within alternative provision (desirable)
  • A patient, adaptable, and non-judgemental approach
  • Confidence in de-escalating behaviour and remaining calm under pressure
  • A good sense of humour and strong communication skills
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
